The first subject of discussion was ovulation and the indications for its induction through human menopausal and/or human chorionic gonadotropins. Indications for ovulation induction were recognized to be anovulation, luteal insufficiency and cervical sterility; the use of gonadotropins was reputed useful also to help nidation. Protocol of treatment, its feasibility, timing of administration, and criteria of surveillance were discussed. Results obtained in several countries were then analyzed in terms of techniques used. The workshop concluded with a discussion on complications of induced ovulation, such as first trimester abortion, multiple pregnancy, and ovarian hyperstimulation; and their prevention, when and if possible.
